Axel Glasner, born in Trier, now living in Olk, Rheinland-Pfalz, is a trained social worker and carpenter and has been manufacturing pipes since the mid 90s. At first only for personal use, then technically exquisite for a fine clientele.
His style is inspired from classic danish artists such as Ilstedt, Hedegaard and TAO, technical refinements and highest quality workmanship have arisen under the influence of Jörg Lehmann and Jürgen Moritz.
Handling and finishing is also on highest quality level, like the base material. Cumberland and Ebonite for mouthpieces (usually without filters) and plateaux briar from Corsica for the bowls are the ressources for Glasners manufactory. He places heavy emphasis on smooth surfaces that are treated with wax, and assist with perfectly matching color the wood's own grain.
Particularly, the faceted models, which are to be cut from selected briar-scantlings build a concession to precision and perfect finish in Axel Glasner workshop. His shapes are influenced by everyday experiences, and so each pipe is created as a unique.
