Kai Nielsen was born in 1951 in Vordingborg in Denmark. His father, Viggo, at this time a well-known Freehand-pipe maker, put that talent to his son in the cradle. So it was no surprise that Kai learned immediately after leaving school the art of pipemaking in the home workshop. After he had worked for years in his father's "Bari"-factory, he co-founded with his brother Jorgen their own factory in Kolding. After Jorgens retreat from this cooperation, it took Kai to Faaborg, where he still lives and works.
Kai Nielsen is known for a wide range of pipe shapes, from very large-volume pipes to really delicate and filigrane. This diversity can be traced to one of Nielsen's passions - he tries generate a most faithful wood-grain shape. The basic material is finest corsican briar, mouthpieces are cut from acrylic, rubber, horn, decorated with his trademark - a silver nail. All pipes from Kai Nielsen are lutefree, unique and genuine.
